Budget trains: Choose the Expedition (PeruRail) or The Voyager (IncaRail) services. They are the cheapest from both companies. Remember that booking months in advance guarantees lower fares.
The cheapest route (Hidroeléctrica): If you are looking for maximum savings, you can drive to Hidroeléctrica and walk for 2 hours to the town of Aguas Calientes. This way, you save the cost of the train!
Bus or hike to the Sanctuary?: The bus from the town costs between 8 and 12 dollars (one way). You can save this money by walking up the stairs (approximately 2 hours), although it requires good physical condition.
Accommodation: In Aguas Calientes, you will find everything from backpacker hostels for 45 soles a night to luxury hotels. Book online in advance to catch the best deals.
Recommendation: If you are going to visit other sites in Cusco (Pisac, Ollantaytambo, etc.), buy the Cusco Tourist Ticket (Boleto Turístico del Cusco). It is much cheaper than paying for each entrance fee separately.
