The train trip to Machu Picchu is the most comfortable way to get there, but you must keep in mind that space on board is limited. Only one piece of carry-on luggage is allowed per passenger:
Peru Rail: Allows one bag or backpack weighing up to 5 kilos (11 lb) with dimensions that do not exceed 157 linear cm.
Inca Rail: Allows a maximum weight of 8 kilos (17 lb) with dimensions up to 118 linear cm.
Safety and boarding rules:
Clear aisles: It is not permitted to carry items that obstruct the transit of other passengers in the carriage.
Luggage storage: If you are traveling with large suitcases, leave them in storage at your hotel in Cusco or Ollantaytambo; most offer this service for free.
Punctuality: You must arrive at the station 30 minutes in advance. If you miss the train due to a delay, there is no room for claims or refunds.
Valuables: Train companies are not responsible for losses; always keep your money and documents with you.
Important fact: Consuming snacks and drinks is allowed on board, but avoid carrying heavy meals that might be uncomfortable in the limited space of the train.
