Machu Picchu is located between the Andes and the Amazon, which creates a unique subtropical climate with two distinct seasons. Choose the time that best suits your adventure:
Rainy Season (November to March): Ideal if you are looking for intense green landscapes and warmer daytime temperatures. Although there are intermittent rains (especially in February), the Sanctuary looks spectacular.
Tip: Wear non-slip footwear, and if you are climbing Huayna Picchu, choose the 10:00 AM slot to avoid morning fog.
Dry Season (April to October): This is the time with the most sunny days and clear skies, perfect for photography. Keep in mind that it is the busiest season and nights can be very cold (dropping below 0°C in June and July).
Tip: The month of September is an excellent "middle ground": spring-like weather, fewer people, and landscapes that are still green.
Must-haves in your backpack! Regardless of the month of your visit, the weather is unpredictable. Make sure to always include:
Rainwear or a rain poncho (it can rain at any time).
Sun protection (hat and sunscreen) and insect repellent.
Layered clothing: for the midday heat and the intense cold of the night or early morning.
